Pixma Pro 9000 very impressive

Strengths: excellent color and B&W,no clogging,13'x19"print size, reasonable ink cost.Outstanding value.What's not to like.

Weakness: might prefer pigment based ink,but that is debatable

I was looking for a good Photo printer,that would produce quality prints,equal to or better than "sending them out",without spending a fortune. The printer utilizes long life dye based inks,providing a more vibrant,color saturation than the now available,even longer lasting pigment based inks available on other model printers.However this a matter of choice and print longevity is still dependent on the type of paper used and manner of storage. Great price,performance ratio.

Strengths: super quality

Weakness: too heavy

I bought this with my canon 5d package. In this way I will get $500 mail in rebate. The printer price is only $4xx. So basically you make money for purchasing this printer. It can print up to 13x19 inch photo. The average ink cost for such a large photo is about 3-5 dollars. you surely want to purchase good photo papers too which will cost you another 3 dollors each.

This printer was easy to set up on the iMac and seems to print very well. I have tried a few prints and they turned out great at 8x10. Could be even better if I did a bit of post printing work. The one thing you need to know is that this thing is huge! I never really paid much attention to the size specs when I ordered it with the mac. I figured it would be about the same size as the last 5 printers I have had. Nope!

The only other thing I have found compared to others is that it does actually shake the desk top while printing. Not a problem if you have a seperate stand but it can be when it is shared on same desktop as puter.

AMAZING PICTURES!

I did extensive research before purchasing this printer and I definitely made the right choice. The Pro9000 delivers beautiful color and b/w prints especially compared to my i960 printer. The skin tone looks natural and true to life. I love the fact that it can handle so many different paper sizes. Kind of slow printing on the big sizes, but worth the wait for exceptional pictures. It's huge and takes up a lot of desk space, but fortunately I have a big desk. The front load is a nice feature, but the pic can get misaligned easily. Very easy to setup. Overall this is definitely worth purchasing and I highly recommend it.

Great printer - beautiful pictures, a wide variety of supported media from Canon, easy to set up and use, and able to deal with heavy and thick media.

Two caveats:

1) With some media (Canon / Hahnemule's Museum Etching and Canon's Fine Art Matte) the printer insists in a 1 inch margin at the top and bottom of each sheet (but not on the sides!). So you can only print a maximum 12.75"x16" image on a 13"x19" sheet of these papers.

2) The included ICC profiles need a significant amount of additional adjustments to produce colors that matched the original image or even each other. I had to figure out separate adjustments for each paper type supported.

Despite these two caveats, I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend this printer to anyone.


I have made some rough estimates of ink usage costs.
I estimate each 11x14 costs about $1.85 to print and each 13x19 costs about $2.95 to print...INK COST ONLY...using canon ink. (roughly .012 cents per sq in)
