400DO - save a Lb for $1,500.

Strengths: Very light, optics nearly as good as the 300F2.8 IS (a legendary sharp lens)

Weakness: PRICE (about $2,500 in my opinion) Distorts bright out of focus areas -- looks like a mirror lens

There are only a few reasons to buy this lens: 1. You won the lottery and want to own every lens Canon makes 2. You need a light weight long prime 3. You must have a 400mm prime with IS. The optical quality of this lens is very good -- it is a tad less sharp than the legendary 300F2.8 IS. Which is saying a lot. The choice between the 400 F4 IS DO and the 300 F2.8 IS is 1 Lb light, 100 mm longer,...
